Its Bananas!

I’ve been stuck in a yogurt rut this entire year. Its always either black cherry, blueberry, or peach. Time to switch it up a bit..

6oz_Banana_FOTB-lgSo last night I tried this banana Chobani, and really didn’t know what to expect. It was surprisingly good! Not nearly as sweet as I thought it would be, I will definitely eat this again.

And I was having ideas of possibly pairing it with crushed graham crackers or oreos, maybe drizzle on a little melted peanut butter or fudge sauce!

Me And My Aurora

A few weeks ago I was searching Groupon, and came across this Sirius Aurora Light Therapy System. It was $70 (usually $149) so I decided to give it a try.

sirius beauty auroraBecause my skin is acne-prone, and has some scarring from past break-outs, I was very excited for the blue light attachment. I’m almost 27, of course I’m worried about wrinkles and age spots, but my main skin-care priority is preventing new break-outs.

The device also comes with a red light attachment, and a green light attachment. I haven’t really used the green one, but the one time I did, my fiancé said I looked like the wicked witch from The Wizard Of Oz…yikes!

I’ve been using the blue light pretty much daily for about 5 weeks. The instructions are to use for a total of 24 minutes – yeah, there’s no way! I just try to focus on my T-zone for at least 3 minutes, and usually manage to sneak in 12 minutes. There have been definite results, and I’m sure I could see even more improvement in less time if I was able to complete the entire 24 minute routine.

I also use the red light, but not as much. I try to get at least 3 minutes a day, using it in-between my eyebrows, crows feet, and lips.

I’ve noticed some dryness after using this product, but my skin tends to dry out fairly easily. I’ve stopped using face wash with salicylic acid, and switched to Dove brand bar soap – very gentle and moisturizing.

The improvements I’ve seen are

  • black heads shrinking and disappearing
  • redness around my nose diminishing
  • lips seem a bit redder and fuller
  • clogged pores are healing before having a chance to become inflamed
  • pimples are smaller and heal faster than they have in the past
  • skin feels softer, smoother, and looks more vibrant
  • pores appear smaller

I used to wear fairly heavy foundation every day, and now I get enough coverage from bb cream and a tiny bit of concealer.

I’d recommend this Smash Box Second Skin concealer to everybody.

smashbox-pro-second-skin-concealer It gives amazing coverage and lasts all day. You only need to use a VERY tiny amount. It takes me longer than a year to go through one tube. I usually buy it from eBay for around $13.

I’ve tried a few bb creams, the one I’ve liked best is dream fresh from Maybelline. It feels light and gives my skin a very natural-looking glow.BB_Cream_Maybelline_Tube

Frustrated Mama

For the last few weeks now, I’ve been making my own baby formula. I did a lot of research and found this great recipe using goat milk.

Not only is it MUCH cheaper than formula, I know every single ingredient that is going in to my son’s body. I saw instant improvements too

  • He was no longer acting colicky
  • His dry skin was healing and felt soft
  • He was calmer
  • He was no longer constipated

Now today, I take him to his 4 month appointment, and tell his doctor about the changes I’ve made to his diet. Dr. Quamme is wonderful, and is usually very supportive but because he knew little of the exact nutritional facts, he didn’t feel comfortable telling me it was a good choice.

He then called a resident nutritionist and asked her what she thought about it, came back and basically told me to put him back on commercial formula, and keep trying different kinds until I find one that he tolerates well.

He then told me he needs me to call back in a few weeks and update them on how he is doing on the commercial formula.

Really?!

I don’t have any desire to switch him back to similac or some other big-name-brand formula.. I also don’t know what could happen if I don’t actually call my doctor in a few weeks and say “Yes he’s back on powdered junk food and doing fine.”

What would you do??

Testing, testing

Oh blogging, how I’ve missed you!

This is my very first post using the WordPress app, so I’m trying to figure out if I like it as much as blogging from a computer.

What’s changed since the last time I posted, over a year and a half ago? Well, I’m a mom now, to the most precious and ridiculously crabby baby boy…

He is pretty high maintenance, meaning I don’t get very much time to myself. If I can figure out blogging from my phone, I just might be able to start posting again… golly gee that would be swell!

Although I’m already impressed that I was able to remember my wordpress password – definitely a good start.

Splenda Sweet

I know I know, it’s been a really long time since I posted anything

I originally promised myself that this blog would remain positive, and I wouldn’t use this space to write about negative or ugly things.

I guess that translates to “having nothing to write about during the holiday season”

**if you’re wondering about my hair, I have temporarily put my no-poo on pause, I’ve only been using the 70% organic from Avalon.

But I did make my own liquid soap, by melting local-made bar soap.

And I’ve started making my own thieves oil, and my geezess that stuff is amazing!!

I use organic olive oil and add in all my favorite essential oils… eucalyptus, tea tree, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, lemongrass, rose-hip seed, lavender, jasmine, peppermint, spearmint … i think that’s all.

Brindle Babes

On Monday…

My Vienna puppy and her mama-dog, Isis, got to spend the day together.

Isis (on the right) is all pitbull, Vienna (on the left) is half pit and half bull mastiff.

They’re both furocious!

A friend and I went through a phase of making doll-house items.

And I set-up a glimpse in to a completed room.

Now we just need to finish all the other rooms

oh and eventually we may need an actual doll house …
